Catch a scenic chairlift ride and enjoy spectacular views the easy way.  Two chairlift rides will take you up to the Knoll Ridge Chalet at 2,020 metres above sea level….the highest café in New Zealand! Relax on the wide, sunny deck and enjoy scrumptious refreshments from the café.  On a clear day you will enjoy stunning views of Mt Ruapehu’s summit, the World Heritage listed Tongariro National Park and the central North Island.
 
The more adventurous can take a guided walk to the summit of Mt Ruapehu and see New Zealand’s largest active volcanic lake.  Learn about Mt Ruapehu’s last major volcanic eruptions in 1995 and 1996 when giant ash clouds billowed out of the mountain’s crater.  View the remains of the awesome power of nature. 

There are also numerous short walks for all ages and fitness levels.  Wander through volcanic history and visit the dramatic backdrop to many scenes in Lord of the Rings.
